The Arlington Historical Museum is proud to present A Different Look from a Different View, a compelling new exhibit by local artist Zane Killgo, on view through spring 2026.
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Arlington County, Killgo’s artistic practice explores the complex narratives of changing neighborhoods, with a particular focus on gentrification, displacement, and community resilience. Drawing on personal experience and deep engagement with diverse communities, his work captures the lived realities of the African-American community and other voices often marginalized in discussions about urban change.
Killgo earned both his BFA (2021) and MFA in Visual Studies (2024) from Norfolk State University, where he honed a multimedia approach that blends traditional and digital techniques. His vibrant landscapes and cityscapes reflect a folk-inspired aesthetic grounded in rich color, layered storytelling, and multimedia process.
A Different Look from a Different View features a range of original works that chronicle shifts in community identity over time, highlighting architectural landmarks, neighborhood spaces, and the everyday experiences that define Arlington’s cultural landscape. Killgo’s work invites viewers to consider how history, policy, and personal memory intersect in the places we call home.
Community engagement is central to Killgo’s practice. In addition to his studio work, he has collaborated on public projects that amplify resident perspectives—including community-based art initiatives in Tidewater Gardens, Norfolk, where his collaborative work Tidewater Together was featured in The New York Times Style Magazine in 2022.
Killgo’s artistic achievements include second-place recognition in Claim to Fame, the Arlington Artists Alliance’s national juried show in 2023, and a recent partnership with the Langston Boulevard Alliance that secured a $50,000 grant from the Arlington Commission for the Arts supporting an Arlington Arts Pop-up Gallery opening in February 2026.
Join us at the Arlington Historical Museum to explore A Different Look from a Different View: a vibrant reflection on community, continuity, and change, rooted in lived experience and the evolving story of Arlington.
