The Washington-Rochambeau Route Through Arlington

November 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join the Arlington Historical Society as it hosts a talk by Kevin Vincent on the march of the French and American Armies to and from Yorktown that passed through present-day Arlington in 1781 and 1782 and our area’s specific connections with the campaign. The route of the march from Newport, Rhode Island to Yorktown, Virginia is now commemorated in the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail and the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route (W3R) Association’s Victory Towns program.

Kevin is a semi-retired lawyer and historian of the American Revolution. He is a long-time volunteer with the Arlington Historical Society and Ball-Sellers House and guides the AHS “George Washington’s Forest Walking Tour.”  Kevin has spoken to AHS audiences on the role of what is now Arlington in the Revolution and in the Fairfax militia muster. He also runs the daily blog, “On This Day 250 Years Ago in the Revolution” which covers events in every colony and elsewhere that had impact on the American Revolution.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS and FREE ON-CAMPUS PARKING:

Attendees planning to attend the event in-person should enter the Marymount University campus at the library gate on N. 26th Street.

  • From Glebe Road going north, take a right onto 26th Street.
  • Pass through the stop light at the intersection of 26th and Old Dominion Drive.
  • Pass the intersection with Yorktown Road
  • Enter the campus through the next gate on your left. The library is to your left as you enter the campus.
  • Free garage parking is just past the library at the bottom of the small incline. (Handicapped parking is immediately to your right as you enter through the gate onto campus.)

If the university has lowered the garage gates, push the button and let them know you’re here for an Arlington Historical Society event in the library. To leave, push the button and they’ll raise the gate.
