This exhibit traces the county’s evolving systems of leadership\, from its early days as part of the District of Columbia to its return to Virginia and the development of today’s county board system. \nThrough stories of civic debate\, reform\, and community action\, visitors will discover how Arlingtonians have shaped their government and how questions of representation\, voice\, and power continue to matter today. \n\nThe Arlington Historical Museum is commemorating 250+ years of local history. This exhibit is upstairs on the 2nd floor of the museum. The Museum is open Saturdays 10-4 PM and Sundays 1-4 PM. \n\n\nIt’s FREE!

SUMMARY:Around the Hearth: An Original Play About the Ball-Sellers House
DESCRIPTION:Join the Arlington Historical Society for an encore performance of Around the Hearth\, a play about the generations of people who lived in the oldest building in Arlington County. Families living in this mid-18th century farmhouse experienced colonial Virginia\, the American Revolution\, the tumult of the 19th century\, and the growing pains of the 20th. \nMeticulously researched and written by local playwright and Washington Liberty High School alum Layla Johnson\, Around the Hearth breathes life into this varied group of long-ago Virginians. Audiences meet John Ball\, a colonial farmer and miller; William Carlin\, an Alexandria tailor who is the name sake of the Glencarlyn neighborhood; Ann and Andrew Carlin\, entrepreneurial siblings who ran the Carlin Springs Resort and Spa for 30 years; Irene Young a suffragist and math teacher; Julia and Will Powell\, both veterans of World War I\, and their niece Marian Sellers who donated the house to the Arlington Historical Society in 1975. \nProduced and directed by Matteo Hope\, also an alum of WLHS\, and now attending George Mason University. Mr. Hope has assembled a multi-generational cast to enthusiastically portray each generation. \nThe performance will NOT be available via Zoom\, and it will NOT be recorded. \nTICKETS:\nTickets are free\, but we hope you donate toward the preservation of this unique historical treasure. SUMMARY:15 Minute History: Director's Cut with Daniel Gessel - Remembering 9/11
DESCRIPTION:Join Daniel Gessel as he discusses the making of This is How We Say Thank You: 9/11 in Arlington\, his Eagle Scout project for AHS. Presented in a director’s commentary format\, the film will be shown with pauses throughout\, giving Gessel the opportunity to discuss the inspiration for the project\, how he selected those he interviewed\, memorable moments from filming\, and the stories that didn’t make it onto the screen. Reflecting on the project as we approach 9/11’s 25th anniversary\, he’ll also share what he learned about Arlington’s response to 9/11 while documenting one of the county’s most defining moments.
