Now on view at the Arlington Historical Museum, From Barriers to Ballots explores the long and ongoing struggle for voting rights in Virginia. Marking the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the exhibit highlights local stories of activism, suppression, and progress—featuring original artifacts like poll tax receipts, historic ballot boxes, and documents from Arlington’s civil rights history. Through personal stories, photographs, and rarely seen archival materials, the exhibit reveals how systemic obstacles were overcome through grassroots action, legal challenges, and community organizing. Visitors will learn how legal, social, and political barriers were challenged over time and how those battles continue to shape our republic today. Presented in collaboration with the Arlington Public Library and other local partners, this exhibit runs through November 4, 2025.
