Description

Author and historian Dr. Alfred O. Taylor, Jr. leads us on two trails of discovery, first he uncovers his great grandfather’s personal biography and then delves into the role played by Trooper Pride as a Buffalo Soldier carrying out the US government’s violent policies in the West.

In his book: “Following the Trail of Trooper Alfred Pride: A Patriot and a Pawn” Dr. Taylor writes from the perspective of his great-grandfather who served in the 9th and 10th Cavalry of the Buffalo Soldiers from 1865 until 1893, when he retired at Fort Myer, Virginia. Matching his service and experience with previously untold stories of the racism, segregation, and broken promises by the US government, the book gives an inside perspective on what these Black troopers had to endure as they pursued what they thought would lead them to full citizenship as promised by the Emancipation Proclamation, only to find that it was not to be.

Dr. Alfred O. Taylor, Jr. earned a Bachelor’s of Science at the Washington Technical Institute; a Masters at Federal City College and his Doctorate at Virginia Polytechnical Tech. He retired from the University of the District of Columbia after 31 years of service in 1999. Since then, he has written several books including Bridge Builders of Nauck/Green Valley (2015).
