Former AHS President David Pearson welcomes Jack and Jill Club students
The Arlington Historical Museum recently hosted the NOVA chapter of the Jack and Jill Club of America, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders. These middle schoolers were excited to learn about the history of voting rights in the county.
Former museum director Mark Benbow and board member Rich Samp shared then and now presentations of local voting. The students took a 1920 literacy test to see how well they would do and completed “What Voting Means to Me” ballots.

AHS board member Richard Samp talks to the students about the history of voting rights.
The program ended with a tour of the museum’s permanent exhibits and everyone sharing their wishes for the future of America on the Wish Wall.
