Why Oral History Matters
Oral history captures the lived experiences, memories, and perspectives of people in their own words, preserving the past, enriching the present, and inspiring the future.
Telling the fascinating and complex history that is Arlington means we need to capture the voices and stories of its people. “Arlington Stories” is how we will; through trained volunteers and state-of-the-art recording equipment, we will conduct interviews for individual stories, points of view of significant events, and community and family histories as told to stakeholders and descendants. The Arlington Historical Society is partnering with George Mason University to host the website infrastructure and incorporate the content into their academic and public history programs.
