Old Guard
The Commanders in Chief Guards from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) are scheduled to appear at HistoryFest on May 9 at 2:30 pm. It serves as the official ceremonial unit and presidential escort, honoring George Washington’s Revolutionary War bodyguard.
- Mission & Heritage: Formed in 1776, the unit acts as the modern continuation of George Washington’s personal guard. They represent the Continental Army in 18th-century uniforms, complete with blue and buff coats, tricorn hats, and white breeches.
- Ceremonial Duties: They perform high-profile ceremonies at the White House, the Pentagon, and special events, featuring historical drills, weapon demonstrations, and musical performances.
The Old Guard is joining over 40 Arlington-based history and civic organizations participating in HistoryFest.
