
Preserving Arlington’s Historic Landscape Through an Open and Public Process
The area surrounding Arlington House, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Memorial Bridge, and the Lincoln Memorial forms one of the most important historic landscapes in the United States. Completed in the early twentieth century, Arlington Memorial Bridge was designed as a symbol of national reconciliation following the Civil War. Linking the National Mall with Arlington National Cemetery, it serves as both a transportation corridor and a memorial to unity, remembrance, and shared sacrifice.

Arlington’s VA250 Mobile Experience
Through partnerships with sponsors and community organizations such as the Arlington Historical Society, VA250 has supported history-focused events across Virginia in the lead-up to this July 4th.

Old Guard
The Commander-in-Chief's Guard (CINC Guard), officially Company A, 4th Battalion, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment ("The Old Guard"), is an elite Army unit based at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia.

The Passing of John Tuohy
John Hugh Tuohy passed on March 15, 2026, at the age of 72. He was a licensed CPA, Deputy Treasurer for Arlington County Government, and a long-time Civil War reenactor. He had a distinguished career in public service, including serving as CFO for the City of Falls Church before he moved to the Treasurer's Office in Arlington.

Arlington’s Bicentennial Celebration
The county’s Bicentennial parade—hailed as the largest in Northern Virginia—featured 107 entrants. It stepped off at 10 a.m. along North George Mason Drive, led by police motorcycles and closed by sheriff’s deputies on horseback. Bands, veterans, civic groups, and neighborhood organizations filled the route, turning the morning into a vivid display of community pride.

AHS 2025 Annual Banquet
The Arlington Historical Society hosted a SOLD-OUT banquet on the evening of October 14th at the historic Army-Navy Club. The banquet's theme was "Telling America's Story."

2025 Student History Contest Winners
As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain, we reflect upon the stories and places that have shaped its history. Arlington, a community with deep roots in the American narrative, has witnessed some significant moments that contributed to the story of our nation.

Ceramics and History
For thousands of years, artists have used ceramics to document history. At the Arlington Historical Society bookstore, you can see a modern example of this tradition in the artwork created by AHS board member Jessica Kaplan.
